The Independent: One Big Newspaper One Big Sponsor

Doc/Fest, the UK’s leading documentary film festival, is delighted to announce that it has agreed a deal with The Independent newspaper to become the presenting media sponsor for 2008. The event will now be known as, Sheffield Doc/Fest in association with The Independent.
The sponsorship deal brings extensive advertising and marketing opportunities for both Doc/Fest and its sponsors.
This is the second year running that The Independent has sponsored Doc/Fest, and highlights the Festival’s success at attracting both a wider audience and lobbying for greater support of UK and international documentaries.
Doc/Fest 2008 is taking place between 5-9th November in Sheffield and will showcase over 100 films. It has become Europe’s must-attend festival for filmmakers, producers and commissioners alike, attracting thousands of delegates from across the globe.
Heather Croall, Festival Director of Doc/Fest says: “Our aim is to be the most important documentary festival in Europe, and with a significant national media partner like The Independent on board, we are well on the way to achieving that.

Search is on for Doc/Fest 2008

Sheffield International Documentary Festival, the UK’s premier event for international documentary professionals, has today started its search for films to showcase at this year’s festival.
Sheffield Doc/Fest is considering documentaries of any style or subject from established or debut filmmakers, television or film school productions for this year’s official programme.
Last year Doc/Fest showcased 100 of the finest examples of documentary film from across the globe, attracting over 1,200 industry delegates from as far away as Japan and Australia.
The Festival, now in its fifteenth year, will run from 5-9 November 2008. To coincide with the result of the US Presidential Elections, Doc/Fest will present a number of films and panels around the theme of Regime Change. Other film strands this year will include Green Docs, Anti Docs, Bent Docs and Music Docs.
For the second year, Doc/Fest has partnered with The Grierson Trust to host the Grierson:Sheffields, including the Innovation Award and Green Award, which explore environmental issues and the climate change debate. Entries can be made through the Grierson Trust or Doc/Fest website. Films accepted into the official programme may be nominated for the Grierson:Sheffield Youth Jury Award.
New this year Doc/Fest is welcoming ideas for the festival’s sessions programme content, allowing everyone to input into Doc/Fest’s industry programme.
Doc/Fest offers delegates the opportunity to gain expert advice from industry experts and win funding through various competitions including, the Channel 4 Pitch, Sky One Development Prize, BBC New Talent competition and the Crossover Lab Pitch.

The Designers Republic performs for Doc/Fest

The Designers Republic (TDR) has been appointed by Sheffield Doc/Fest, the UK’s leading documentary film festival, to provide branding and visual identity for the 2008 programme and beyond.TDR was reselected for the account after winning a three way pitch. The appointment marks the continuation of an on-going convivial relationship.
Sheffield Doc/Fest 2008 is taking place between 5th-9th November and will showcase over 100 films during this time. It has become the UK’s must-attend festival for filmmakers, producers and commissioners alike, and attracts thousands of delegates from across the globe. TDR has developed an identity for Sheffield Doc/Fest based on documentary films’ fundamental ideal: the pursuit of the truth.
TDR has worked extensively within film and TV. Recent clients include MTV and Nickelodeon channels, special effects team Moving Picture Company, and Warp Films. TDR is one of the world’s leading brand advisors whose wider client portfolio includes Coca Cola, Apple, ElectronicArts, Hasbro and Deutsche Bank.

MK tells the truth about Doc/Fest

MK, the Sheffield-based PR and communications agency, has been appointed by Doc/Fest, the UK’s leading documentary film festival, to handle its public relations remit for 2008.
MK was awarded the 12 month contract - for a combination of national and international media relations, marcomms and event management - after winning a three-way pitch and impressing with creative ideas for helping Doc/Fest achieve its ambitious growth plans.
Sheffield Doc/Fest 2008 is taking place between 5-9 November and will showcase over 100 films. It has become the UK’s must-attend festival for filmmakers, producers and commissioners alike, and attracts thousands of delegates from across the globe.
MK has a strong track-record in both film and entertainment. The account will be headed up by MK Director Caroline Woffenden, who joined from Hill and Knowlton in January 2008.
