Participants: Hamish Mykura
Hamish Mykura, Head of Documentaries at Channel 4 and Head of More4, is interviewed by Nick Fraser about his influences, views and plans for documentary at Channel 4. Hamish sees the documentary brief at Channel 4 as "one of the most exciting and varied commissioning roles within television, ranging from popular series to feature-length landmark films" and regards the job as an irresistible challenge.
Hamish has been responsible for much of Britain's most controversial broadcaster's most controversial output. The motto for Channel 4 is 'inspire change, do it first, make trouble' and his commissions often land him in the media spotlight. In the case of 'Diana, The Witnesses in the Tunnel', which delivered high ratings in the face of an enormous public row, he remarked that he would gladly trade the ratings for slightly less controversy. Come and find out how he sees the role of documentary in fulfilling public service requirements in the digital age and his vision for the future of More4. A chance to hear the story that goes beyond the headlines.
