1968 Radio Docs Special

Venue: The Chapel
Saturday 08 November 2008 11:00

Every day for six months during 2008, Radio 4 recreated that date’s events in 1968, using vivid audio archive and music from the time.

Each day’s programme was four minutes long, and was broadcast right before PM, the network’s evening news strand. Proximity to the headlines of 2008 allowed listeners the opportunity to compare and contrast events then and now. Every Sunday evening at 11pm all seven programmes from the previous week were brought together in an omnibus edition lasting half an hour.

The audio archive came principally from BBC Radio and TV, but also from ITN in the UK (which incorporates Reuters and Pathe amongst others), and NARA, APTN, and Pacifica in the US. The music we used was recorded or released in 1968 or would have still been making an impact that year.

A selection of highlights from the series can be heard on Saturday 8 November, 11.00 – 12.00 in The Chapel.
