Sheffield Doc/Fest presents four awards to the best films in the official programme
Doc/Fest is continuing its partnership with the Grierson Trust to present the Grierson:Sheffield Innovation, Green and Youth Jury Awards.
We are also proud to present the inaugural Sheffield Doc/Fest Audience Award, which will be voted by you!

Grierson:Sheffield Awards
Established in 1972, the prestigious Grierson Awards have been celebrating and awarding the most innovative and significant documentaries from around the world.
Sheffield Doc/Fest is proud to present the Grierson:Sheffield Awards together with the Grierson Trust. Now in its second year the Grierson:Sheffield Awards presents three awards to the best films in the official programme

Grierson:Sheffield Innovation Award
The Grierson:Sheffield Innovation Award is given to a documentary that exhibits innovation in format, style, technique or content. The award is open to all forms of documentary – long form theatrical, one hour TV doc, projects delivered online or across multiple platforms. Documentaries in this category will demonstrate an outstanding and brave approach to production and/or subject.
Please note: For this category entrants must provide 50 words describing how their entry is innovative. Films accepted for the 2008 Sheffield Doc/Fest are eligible for entry. Additional entry fees apply to enter this award. Please go to the Grierson Trust website for more details.

Grierson:Sheffield Green Award
The Grierson:Sheffield Green Award honours a single documentary, or an episode from a strand or a series exploring environmental issues or that has made a contribution to the climate change debate. The category is also open to documentaries that have been produced in an environmentally friendly way and adhere to the Green Code Guidelines. Please note: For this category entrants must provide 50 words describing how their entry complies with the Green Award criteria. Films accepted for the 2008 Sheffield Doc/Fest are eligible for entry. Grierson:Sheffield Youth Jury Award
Grierson:Sheffield Youth Jury Award is open only to films selected for the 2008 Sheffield Doc/Fest programme and the shortlist will be chosen by the festival programmer. The £2000 cash prize will be given to the film that is most engaging for young audiences and will be chosen by a jury of young people and chaired by a member of The Grierson Trust. All entries for the Grierson:Sheffield Youth Jury Award must have been accepted for the 2008 Sheffield Doc/Fest.

Sheffield Doc/Fest Audience Award
This year Doc/Fest is thrilled to announce the Sheffield Doc/Fest Audience Award which is given to the doc with the most audience votes for best film. Last year Geoffrey Smith’s The English Surgeon was voted the most popular film with Doc/Fest audiences and went on to sweep the world wide festival circuit. Let the audience speak!

Student Doc Award
Sponsored by Wallflower Press, this is a new award honoring the best student documentary in the programme. Films produced as part of course work are eligible.
