The hard stop

Congratulations to The Hard Stop and Dark Horse, which will screen at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September 2015.

The two films were awarded support by the BFI after the pitching session run in partnership with Sheffield Doc/Fest in two separate sessions in 2014.

The Hard Stop, directed by George Aponsah, will World Premiere at TIFF as part of its’ 'City To City London' strand. The documentary explores the life and death of Mark Duggan through two of his childhood friends, Marcus and Kurtis. Duggan was killed by London’s Metropolitan police, an event which sparked the London riots of 2011. You can watch the trailer on the TIFF’s website here.

Dark Horse, directed by Louise Osmond, has already enjoyed a fantastic festival run, with a world premiere at Sundance Film Festival at the beginning of 2015. The film also screened at Sheffield Doc/Fest in June 2015. Dark Horse will screen as part of the TIFF Docs strand in what will be the film’s Canadian premiere. The film tells the incredible story of Dream Alliance, a race horse, which was owned and trained by a small tight-knit mining community in Wales, with astonishing results. The film will be distributed in the US by Sony Pictures Classics.

TIFF takes place 10-20 September 2015 in Toronto, Canada. Sheffield Doc/Fest’s programmer Claire Aguilar will be attendance.
