German Broadcaster Deutsche Welle will return to Sheffield Doc/Fest this year to meet with new and emerging filmmaking talent, offering an opportunity for a paid 6-month work-experience placement within their documentary team in Berlin.

Deutsche Welle (DW) is Germany’s public international broadcaster. DW has television programs in four languages and online content is available in 30 languages. Every week, DW reaches audiences of more than 157 million people worldwide.

Deutsche Welle are looking to offer:

- A six month work experience placement contract paying 1480.00 Euro per month before tax and social security deductions
- Mentorship from an experienced documentary team
- The chance to develop innovative short doc ideas.

Who Is This For?

This work experience placement scheme is not for complete beginners. DW would need to see some solid evidence of experience working in factual television. DW is particularly interested in giving young talent a foot in the door, so graduates with great ideas and technical skill are also eligible. Applicants from all over the world are welcome, but kindly note that interns are responsible for organizing a valid visa and you are therefore required to supply neccessary documents and arrange appointments in advance. Excellent English and basic German language knowledge are mandatory.

DW is looking for creative people who are passionate about storytelling, have a global outlook and are interested in Germany.

How To Apply

Applicants should pitch proposals for short docs and cross platform projects to be developed with DW. State why you think your ideas would be best suited to Germany’s international broadcaster. Applications should also include a curriculum vitae plus a description of practical journalism experience and work samples. Please also state availability for the work experience placement.

The deadline for applications is Friday 18 May.
Those who have been shortlisted will be informed by Thursday 31 May.
Interviews with the shortlisted candidates will be conducted in Sheffield during the festival, 7-12 June.
