We welcome entries for our 27th edition in June 2020.Doc/Fest is a creative space for discovery, collaboration and inspiration. We champion and push forward talent, ideas and interaction for the future of film and the arts. We are an open, inclusive festival, bringing together veteran creatives, new voices and our city to shape and question the world we live in, creating a sense of community and the potential for change.
Our 27th edition will take place 4-9 June 2020 and the full programme will be announced on 6 May 2020.
Our programmes offers artists and creators a place for inspiration, debate, growth and challenge, being also a relevant international platform to launch art works. It brings to audiences a multitude of forms, ideas, ways of doing and thinking, through World, International, European and UK premieres.
We look to question the boundaries of documentary through a carefully curated programme that challenges trends, brings diversity and enriches debate. We invite audiences to engage with experiences and stories from different parts of our world and to join the makers in inspiring moments.
Our Alternate Realities programme is a space for experimentations on expanded cinema, digital art and other media, bringing a carefully curated group of art works, in varied forms and languages, playing with non-fiction boundaries and expanding them. Here, we explore inspiring forms of interactive storytelling through experimenting with technology, renewing the conversations, allowing different modes of interaction, creating other ways of perceiving and thinking life.
What are we looking for?In considering the entries we receive to the festival, we ask ourselves: Does the creator and the work show authenticity in voice, in questioning, in sharing the images they produce and the stories they represent? Is there something new about this work? Does it offer a perspective of a known subject that we haven’t seen before? Does it offer an aesthetic approach to reality we have not engaged with? Is the socio-political narrative of the work relevant to the now?
We see this as one of the primary roles of a festival with an open entires format: to be ravenous in the search for works that are not already on our radar, to ensure we are a festival of equal opportunity, a truly international and pluralistic festival.
