Join Oscar®-nominated Chilean filmmaker Maite Alberdi (The Mole Agent, The Eternal Memory, A Child of My Own) for a masterclass delving into Maite’s distinctive documentary storytelling. Known for intimate films that reveal larger social and emotional issues, Alberdi has become one of the most compelling voices in contemporary nonfiction filmmaking. During the masterclass, Maite will discuss her latest film, A Child of My Own, which screens at the festival on Thursday, June 11th. She will explore its development and themes, offering audiences a chance to hear her reflect on her craft and creative process behind some of the most tender and incisive documentaries of recent years, as well as her evolving journey and storytelling as a filmmaker.

Maite Alberdi is the first Chilean documentary director nominated for the Oscars. In 2011 she directed her first feature film, The Lifeguard. Then, in 2015 she released Tea Time – which has won more than 12 international awards  and was nominated for the Goya Award for best Ibero-American film. In 2016 she released I Am Not From Here, a short film that was nominated for the European Film Awards. The same year she released The Grown-Ups, a feature film that has won 10 international awards. At Sundance 2020, she premiered her fourth feature film, The Mole Agent, which was nominated for the Oscars® and won the Ariel Award and Platino Award in the Best Documentary category. In 2023, she released the documentary The Eternal Memory, a film that was nominated for the Oscars® for Best Documentary, in addition to winning the Goya Award for best Ibero-American film, and the Sundance Grand Jury Prize Documentary. Her 2024 film, In Her Place, was nominated for the Goya Awards.
