This year has seen a huge growth of documentaries and dramas focusing on the deaf experience such as Old Hands, New Tricks and Reunion on BBC1 & iPlayer, Code of Silence about to launch on ITVX and Deaf President Now! on AppleTV. American actor and director Nyle DiMarco leads a panel of hearing and deaf filmmakers, asking whether we’re entering a golden age for deaf filmmakers, both on and offscreen. And if not, how can their hearing peers help redress the balance by being good deaf allies. Supported by LumoTV, the world’s only deaf commissioning body, the panel also discuss the importance of putting deaf stories front and centre of their platform and for showing that British Sign Language can be for all.
