This ‘guerrilla’ newsreel documentary portrays reactions to the Vietnam by anti-war teenagers and African American militants, who talk tough and battle the police.

Community-based methods are the most identified forms of media co-creation. Third World Newsreel grew out of the New York City Newsreel in an attempt to strengthen its commitment to developing filmmakers and audiences of historically marginalized communities. America a.k.a Amerika is set against the background of the escalation of the war in Vietnam, documenting the development of the anti-war movement on the home front. Conversations with Vietnam veterans, young teenagers and African American militants contextualizes footage graphically depicting the increasing incidents of mass protest and police repression.
