Jad Abumrad created Nocturnes after a big life change. He had left behind his career hosting and producing WNYC’s hit radio show and podcast RadioLab, which had earned him a MacArthur Genius award. What happened to him next was not unlike what happens to each of us, every night, as we fall asleep. The ‘story of us’ dissolves away. Taking classical music’s most famous night-time work, Chopin’s Nocturnes, Jad used microscopic clips and stretched and processed them into oblivion creating new musical compositions that evoke subterranean memories and visions. Emerge from the depths before resolving again into the new you the next morning.
