Cuba y la Noche
Captured entirely on phone footage, a group of Cuban artists risk everything to document their uprising against a government trying to silence them.
Central to the story is Denis Solís González, a rapper and activist whose arrest in November 2020 became a flashpoint for the San Isidro Movement, a collective of artists and activists pushing back against state repression. As hunger strikes intensify and security forces close in, The Long Cuban Night is told through the vertical footage that first broke through the regime's control of information. Intercut throughout is a state television journalist whose coverage of events slips into Orwellian doublespeak. A confronting and vital watch from a country where the simple act of filming became an act of resistance.
Content Guidance: Contains scenes of violence and state brutality.
